Hello! I am Suzanne Capes, and I am the proud owner of Science Protons.
I am a qualified teacher that studied at the University of Stellenbosch. After I completed my bachelor's degree, BSc Human Life Sciences, I did my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). My plan has always been to enter the Education sector after my studies and to mainly focus on teaching science and mathematics to high school learners. Currently I am teaching at my alma mater, High School Stellenberg. I am very passionate about working with our youth and sharing my love for science.
Physical Science is known for being one of the more difficult subjects in high school, and many learners fear this subject the most. As with most subjects at high school level, it requires learners to spend extra time engaging with the content outside of the classroom. When learners are already struggling with this subject, they feel discouraged and avoid spending any more time on it. A negative feeling is often then created and associated with everything related to this subject.
My main goal is to help learners change their perspective on science and to build a positive attitude towards it. Learners start to feel competent and this will persist until the end of their high school career.
Hallo daar! Ek is Suzanne Capes en ek is die trotse eienaar van Science Protons.
Ek is 'n gekwalfiseerde onderwyseres en het beide my kwalifikasies, BSc Menslike Lewenstwetenskappe en Nagraadse Onderwys Sertifikaat (NOS), by die Universiteit van Stellenbosch voltooi. Die plan was nog altyd om eendag in die Onderwys sektor te beland na my studies en om hoofsaaklik wetenskap en wiskunde aan hoërskoolleerders te onderrig. Tans hou ek skool by my alma mater, Hoërskool Stellenberg. Ek is passievol daaroor om met ons land se jeug te werk en my liefde vir die wetenskap met hul te deel.
Fisiese Wetenskappe is bekend as een van die moeilikste vakke in die hoërskool en baie leerders vorm 'n voorafgaande vrees omtrent die vak. Soos met meeste van die vakke op hoërskool, verg dit ekstra tyd wat leerders aan die inhoud moet bestee, buite die klaskamer en skoolomgewing. 'n Negatiewe gevoel teenoor die vak en die inhoud word dan geskep.
My hoofdoel is om hierdie negatiewe perspektief van leerders omtrent wetenskap te verander en 'n positiewe uitkyk en gevoel daarteenoor te bou. Leerders voel dan ook meer bekwaam en hierdie gevoel sal hul bybly tot aan die einde van hul hoërskoolloopbaan.
